The City of Manningham falls within Melbourne’s network of middle ring municipalities that are generally located 20 km from Melbourne’s Central Business District. The City of Manningham is located east of Melbourne’s Central Business District bounded by the Shire of Nillumbik to the north, the Cities of Whitehorse and Maroondah to the south, the Shire of Yarra Ranges to the east and the Cities of Boroondara and Banyule to the west.
It is defined by the Yarra River to the north and west, and Koonung Creek to the south. Manningham is a city of contrast, with urban areas in the west and central part of the municipality and rural properties and hobby farms in the east.
The Manningham municipal profile (http://planning-schemes.delwp.vic.gov.au/schemes/manningham/ordinance/21_mss02_mann.pdf) highlights the liveability of the City is an amalgam of high environmental standards, a diverse range of high quality residential environments, natural and scenic resources and a broad range of leisure opportunities, particularly recreation, entertainment, culture and art. It is interesting to note that there is no rail based public transport that services the municipality.
